In the Faculty Council and library committees, students from FHML and FPN have called for an increase in the number of study places in the Randwyck Library. The possibilities were investigated. The result was a recommendation to extend the Randwyck Library with 177 study places. This plan has been approved: the renovation and refurbishment activities will start in July.

For the selection of the new director of the University Library and the Language Centre, an open recruitment procedure was held. The selection committee has chosen Ingrid Wijk as the new director. The committee consisted of: Gerard Mols (rector, chair), Rein de Wilde (dean FASoS), Rosalie Welie (personnel advisor), Henk van den Hoogen (library manager, ERS department), and Marianne de Ruwe (associate librarian). On 1 August Ingrid will start her new job.

WorldCat is available in the eLibrary since 13 April. It is a huge master catalogue containing citations for library materials held by libraries in 171 countries, including the Maastricht University (UM) Catalogue.

As of 9 September 2010 the reference softwareprogram Endnote 9 will be replaced by the new UM wide standard version X2(12). Users will experience several improvements.

As of Monday 30 August 2010, the Inner City Library will be open until midnight every day; not just on weekdays, but also on Saturdays and Sundays!

From 18 August: The refurbishment of the Randwyck Library is largely complete. The third floor and all its facilities is now open for students again.

As of 1 August the WRDS interface changed. The new interface offers an improved overview and more help in finding the most suitable database.
