In April the University has initiated a project focusing on Mobile Learning. Coordinated by the university library -also taking care of infrastructure and support- 6 pilots within several faculties were defined. They all focus on different devices or at the other hand various teaching and learning activities made possible by these devices.
- SMS for voting in a lecture setting (SBE)
- Twitter for interaction between students and teachers in relation to learning topics (FPN)
- Podwalking and reflective trails within language courses (LC)
- Embedding SPSS skills training within domain specific educational activities by bringing your own laptop to class (FASoS)
- Just in time info: downloading learning material on smart and iPhone (FHML)
- Reflection and portfolio use during internships (FHML)
In order to upscale the experiences, we now focus on what mobile devices UM students already have and how they use (or would like to use) these. Therefore we invite you to fill out a survey. Amongst the students having filled in the survey, an Apple iPod 8 GB mp4 player (MC040ZD/A) will be raffled off.
Click on the link below (or copy / paste it) to fill out the survey: https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&pli=1&formkey=dGZrVTdienRwa3FXNW53eTNkY3BYVXc6MQ#gid=0
You can hear and see more on the project Mobile Learning @ UM and other e-learning activities within this university at the Dual Track E-learning symposium on October 26: http://www.unimaas.nl/eleum/support/docs/eleUM%20loket/informatie/Event_Upcoming_PopUP.asp?ID=190 .

I will be present on Oct 26, and am interested in the SMS usage for voting in a lecture setting. I experimented in November 2009 at the SBE with using SMS during lectures, and the resultant article has been published online in Hermes (DK) 45 (2010).

I will be pursuing the experiment this coming November too, following some of the recommendations in the article.

Hi Bob,
in case we don’t run into each other at the symposium today, I already want to send you a nice link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ywhbPgC5o4. Please get in contact for more detailed interaction on common (or different) experiences.
Best wishes, Gwen
