Job description, qualifications and skills

Depending on the student’s (IT) skills and interests, several tasks can be addressed:

• Documenting recurring workflows and FAQs stemming from EleUM, using the EleUM blog. Skills: Expert knowledge of Blackboard and WordPress.
• Designing and developing a website serving large PDF documents from special collections, based on Tallcomponents software. Skills: ASP.NET, PDF.
• Restoring of ejournal acquisition webpages based on the SFX knowledge base. Skills: MySQL, Transact SQL, ASP(.NET), Shell scripting.
• Upgrading and improving the current e-reader webpages. Skills: Information analyses and functional design, development in ASP.NET.
• Integrating the library services into Windows 8 METRO interface. Skills: MS Visual Studio, MS METRO APPS.

Motivated and determined students, registered at Maastricht University, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, first rate Dutch and English language skills and demonstrable experience in an ICT workenvironment. A recommendation of a faculty member will be considered an advantage.

Conditions of Employment

Maximum monthly salary in Euros: minimum € 360,-  to maximum 419,- (0,2 fte) gross per month for a determinate period of time. Contract duration: 0,5 year. The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO). Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. This decision follows a series of incidents concerning unknown individuals who used spray paint in and around the Inner City Library premises. This “Why don’t we all use the same language?” message is just the latest example of this kind of behavior. It was filmed by accident when the guards were making their rounds after closing hours on Sunday 25 March.

The Inner City Library is a popular study location throughout the academic year, and even more so in the lead-up to the exams. Both the library and the faculties are keen to ensure that all students can find a good place to study during this period.

Where to go?

• Inner City Library
  (Grote Looiersstraat 17) has extra long opening hours on:
  - Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April: 09.00–24.00
  - Monday 2 until Thursday 5 April: 08.30–24.00
   
• Top level (attic) Kapoenstraat 2
  Here, the library offers 30 study places where you can have group discussions or work quietly on your laptop. This room is equipped with power outlets and wireless internet. Opening hours:
  - Monday until Friday: 08.30–17.30
   
• Various faculty buildings in the inner city
  are temporarily offering extra study places on weekdays until 22.00 and during the day on Saturday 31 March.
  All UM students are welcome to use these faculty buildings, even if your classes took place elsewhere.See the faculty newsletters or reports on EleUM for the exact rooms and opening hours. During the exam period, the reception in the hall of the Inner City Library will keep an overview of these faculty study places on hand. Just ask for this overview if you can’t find a suitable study place in the library.

  Student Desktop Anywhere provides access to the student desktop that you’re used to on the library computers, from the faculty buildings, from home, from your internship location – in short, from any computer with an internet connection. This means you will have access to your J drive, software and other facilities you’re allowed to use on the library computers. You can log in via www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/anywhere.
