In the slipstream of the international biennale vacancy and re-use of buildings an educational programme was organized for (interior) design students from the Euregion. The design of a temporary library was one of the five projects.

In a video message Ms Kroes says that open access to research results – both publications and research data – is not just a luxury. She sees Open Access as a must for the Netherlands and Europe if they are to be able to compete internationally.

Publieke subsidieverstrekkers dienen een eenduidig beleid op te stellen voor het toegankelijk maken van onderzoeksdata. Zo kunnen publieke financiers voorkomen dat onderzoeksdata achter slot en grendel verdwijnen bij private organisaties.

Onderzoekers van verschillende universiteiten en onderzoeksinstellingen hebben in 2011 ervaring opgedaan met het verrijken van publicaties. Een Verrijkte Publicatie is een nieuwe vorm van wetenschappelijk publiceren waarbij onderzoekers publicaties en gerelateerde onderzoeksdata, in samenhang beschikbaar maken op internet.
