Seminar ‘Publishing a world class paper’ has been a success

More than 150 participants took part in the seminar on 20 October. Three speakers gave good advice related to the writing and publishing process, whereas the fourth speaker talked about an alternative of getting research more visible.

In verschillende Europese landen bestaan regelingen die het delen en hergebruik van onderzoeksdata in de weg staan. Dit is een van de uitkomsten van het onderzoek Legal Status of Research Data in the four Knowledge Exchange partner countries van Knowledge Exchange.

Publieke subsidieverstrekkers dienen een eenduidig beleid op te stellen voor het toegankelijk maken van onderzoeksdata. Zo kunnen publieke financiers voorkomen dat onderzoeksdata achter slot en grendel verdwijnen bij private organisaties.

Research Data are getting more and more important nowadays; Surf and NWO have founded an eScience Centre to promote and coordinate data-intensive scientific research in the Netherlands: what is our policy relating data-intensive research; don’t we need guidelines for storage, access and re-use?

A recent literature study from Surf regarding storage of and access to research data, concludes that there is no single answer to the question what researchers need to enable them to store their research data and make them accessible. A national project proposal, Controlled Access to Research Data, Stored Securely (CARDS) is based on the outcome of this study.
